The society is toxic in many ways. It thrives on pushing people down for the way they look. Our society enjoys rejecting proposals based on nose-to-lips proportions, it enjoys carefully picking so called “attractive” people as if they are an outfit to wear. All of this has caused so much anxiety over how we should look like. We constantly think about how others evaluate us which makes us socially anxious. We find ourselves looking in the mirror at this person who is unhappy with the way they look; too skinny, too fat, too short, too tall. We never feel happy with our body.
All of us deserve to feel confident regardless of our weights, heights, and preset notions of beauty according to media and society. Body positivity is when you accept your body for all that it is, all that it has been made to bare. It’s when you love your body for all the times it has carried you even when you hated it. It’s when you love those extra pounds but still take care of yourself.
Body positivity in no way means that you keep losing or gaining weight because you love the way you look. Yes, you are beautiful, but it is important to take care of your diet and overall health. You need to lose weight not because you think you’re going to look better, but because it is extra burden on all those precious organs keeping you alive. You need to gain weight because your body does not deserve to be starved. Your height is perfect. There is no such thing as too tall or too short. You are made in perfect proportions.
So from now on, we want you to marvel at the fact that your body is extraordinarily strong and beautiful with all its curves, bumps, and bones. Your skin is beautiful, even if it’s honey gold or cream of wheat. We want you to stop caring about what others think; no one pays attention for too long, everyone forgets, everyone has so much else to think about. Take care of your health, smile a lot. You’re gorgeous.
Love,
Aisha.
